The Grand Caravan is a popular minivan manufactured by Chrysler and sold under the Dodge brand. Most Grand Caravan models are equipped with power door locks. Power door locks are a convenient feature for a vehicle to have, but are prone to failure after extended use. Replacing a Grand Caravan door lock involves the same process as replacing locks for the smaller Caravan, as well as for the Chrysler Town and Country.
Remove the negative battery cable with the pliers. Let the system sit for five minutes before beginning the procedure.
Begin removing the door panel from the door in question. Remove the screw located at the bottom of the door armrest cup hole. Remove the screw behind the interior door handle.
Remove the two screws on the side of the armrest, then remove the armrest. Use the trim panel tool or the flat-head screwdriver to pry off the window control and door lock panel, or remove the window crank if the window control is manual. Disconnect the electrical module and set the panel aside.
Pull the door panel from the door. There are nine clips along the edge of the door panel. Pop out one clip at a time to prevent damage. Set the door panel aside.
Locate the linkage rod connecting the door actuator and the door lock indicator. Disconnect the rod and set aside. Remove the screws mounting the door actuator.
Replace and mount the new actuator. Reconnect the linkage rod. Reattach the door panel to the door, pushing the clips back into place. Replace all door hardware and reattach the negative battery cable.
