How to Change a Brake Light Bulb on a Nissan Quest

Checking the brake lights in your Nissa Quest is an important maintenance step that many people take for granted. It's difficult for the driver behind you to tell if and when you're braking. Even if only one side is out, it diminishes the braking visibility of the Quest in half. Check the brake lights often and save money by replacing them yourself when they do burn out.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Replacement brake light bulb
  • Lift the tailgate of the Nissan Quest and locate the two screws on the side of the taillight assembly.

  • Remove the screws with the screwdriver.

  • Pull straight back on the taillight assembly to separate the two ball sockets from the inside of the tail light assembly. It's going to feel like it's stuck and you're going to need to apply equal parts of delicateness and tenacity to separate it. Be careful because the wire harness offers only a limited amount of wire and you do not want to yank the harness out of the sockets.

  • Locate and remove the brake lamp socket from the taillight assembly by turning the socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Press the bulb inward inside the socket and twist it 1/4 turn counterclockwise to remove it from the socket.

  • Insert the new bulb into the socket and have someone step on the brake pedal to make sure it's working. Reinsert the socket into the taillight assembly.

  • Align the ball sockets up to the predetermined holes and snap the taillight assembly into place.

  • Replace the screws and close the tailgate.
