The life span of Dodge Caravan spark plugs ranges between 30,000 and 45,000 miles, depending on how the Caravan is driven. If the Caravan regularly pulls a trailer or carries a lot of weight, the spark plugs need to be changed every 30,000 miles.
Allow the Dodge Caravan to cool down. Park the car in the shade and pop the hood.
Locate the spark plug wires, which are located about halfway down the sides of the engine block.
Grasp the spark plug wires by their boot, which is the larger piece that covers the spark plug. Turn the boot 180 degrees to the left and then all the way to the right. Pull back on the boot to remove it from the spark plug. Never pull a spark plug by the wire. Remove one wire at a time. If the wires are on the wrong spark plug, it will damage the cylinder and engine.
Remove the spark plug from the cylinder well with the socket, wrench and extension. Spray the well with canned air to remove any debris.
Spray silicon into the wire boot and around the threads of the new spark plug. Insert the spark plug into the cylinder well and tighten the plug in place.
Test the tension on the spark plug. Adjust the tension to 20 ft-lbs. Reconnect the spark plug wire. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for the remaining spark plugs.
