How to Replace Valve Cover Gasket in a Honda Accord

If you have had your Honda Accord for any length of time, you know how reliable it is. The maintenance must be performed periodically if you want your Accord to remain reliable. You should replace the valve cover gasket when the time arises.

Things You'll Need

  • 5/8 to 3/8 spark plug socket and wrench
  • Valve cover gasket kit
  • Valve cover gasket
  • 10 mm socket
  • Valve cover gasket sealer
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Automotive engine cleaner
  • Park your car and allow the engine to cool. Lift your hood and locate the valve cover.

  • Remove the PCV Valve and the hose by firmly gripping it. Remove the throttle cable, cruise control actuator, breather hose and air cleaner assembly.

  • Remove the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) connectors and the VTEC (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) solenoid switch connector and harness.

  • Remove ignition coil wires and harness. Remove cylinder head bolts and remove the cover. Remove the old gasket and clean the cover with automotive engine cleaner. Place the new gasket into the seating.

  • Replace the new valve cover gasket and the valve cover. Replace and tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence until all nine bolts have been tightened.

  • Replace the ignition coil wires and harness, EGR connectors and the VTEC solenoid switch connector and harness. Replace the PCV Valve and the hose, the throttle cable, cruise control actuator, breather hose and air cleaner assembly.

  • Add oil to the vehicle and allow it to run idle. Your maintenance is now complete and you can get back on the road.
