How to Take a Tire Off a Two-Piece Rim

The concept behind the two-piece tire rim is to allow the tire to be changed without the need for a machine or prying the tire off by bolting the two sides of the hub together. This system is commonly used on garden equipment, quad bikes and mopeds but is slowly also making its way onto cars as well.

Removing the tire from a two-piece rim is very easy and can be done in a matter of minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Spanner or socket set
  • Car jack
  • Remove the whole wheel from the vehicle, using the spanner or socket set. This may require the use of a car jack if it is heavier, but most items on two-piece rims are lighter.

  • Locate the bolts holding the two sides of the rim together and remove them, using the spanner or socket set.

  • Pull the two sections of the rim apart.

  • Remove the inner tube from the tire and pull the tire off. Removing the inner tube makes it easier to get the whole tire off.
