How to Fix a Broken Inside Door Handle for a Jeep Wrangler

The interior door handle on your Jeep Wrangler is replaceable if it is damaged. The handle can break or the tabs where the actuator rods attach can wear and snap off. In any of these situations, the only way to fix the handle is to replace it with a new one. Replacement handles for the Wrangler are available from a Jeep dealer or through many aftermarket suppliers.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx screwdriver set
  • Remove the Torx head screw in the center of the handle assembly with a Torx head screwdriver, then pull the handle out. You'll see two actuator rods attached to the rear of the handle, one above the other.

  • Remove the actuator rods from the handle; they just pop out of the holes. Lay the rods aside, then remove the handle from the door.

  • Position a new handle in the door, and reinsert the two actuator rods into the holes on the back of the handle. Push the handle completely into the hole, then replace the Torx head screw into the center of the handle. Tighten it with a Torx head screwdriver.

  • Test the repair by closing the door then opening it using the interior handle. If the handle does not function correctly, remove it and check the rods to ensure they did not come loose when you reinstalled them.
