PT Cruiser Radio Installation Instructions

If you're not satisfied with the radio currently installed in your Chrysler PT Cruiser, you can install an aftermarket radio unit in the car. This will require removing the old stereo from within the dashboard and installing the replacement unit in its place. It can help to check with store representatives to see if the radio works with your car before you go ahead, particularly to see if the new radio will easily connect to the wiring connectors in the car.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Flat-bladed tool
  • Wiring-harness adapter
  • Disconnect the car's negative battery cable.

  • Pull off the control knobs for the heater-air conditioner and remove the power-window switch from around the dashboard center bezel. Remove the center bezel's retaining screw and pry around the edges with a flat tool to remove the bezel from the dashboard.

  • Unscrew the four retaining screws for the radio unit with a screwdriver and pull the radio out of the dash. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the antenna cable.

  • Connect the wires to the new radio unit--you may need to use a wiring harness adapter if the new radio's electrical connector won't fit the connector for the car's wiring. Slide the radio and its bracket into place within the dash. Secure the unit with the mounting screws.

  • Reinstall the center bezel with its screw, along with the power-window switch and heater knobs.

  • Reconnect the battery cable.
