How to Remove a BMW 328 Stereo

The stock stereo in a BMW 328 has many options, but perhaps not the ones you're looking for. That's because the stereo is a single-DIN size and only has room for so much. To upgrade, you'll have to remove the stock unit and replace it. This is not difficult if you have the right tools.

Things You'll Need

  • BMW anti-theft stereo removal tool
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Locate the small plastic caps on the sides of the stereo and pop them out of place using a thumbnail or fingernail. Use the BMW anti-theft stereo removal tool to unscrew the bolts holding the stereo to the dashboard.

  • Slide the stereo out of the dashboard and unplug the antenna lead from the back of the deck.

  • Place a flathead screwdriver between the plastic wire harness lock on the back of the stereo and the deck itself, and pry the lock up to remove it from the stereo. Pull the wiring harness off of the deck, using your hands.
