How to Remove the Factory CD Player on a Chrysler 300

The Chrysler 300 was a huge hit for the company when it was introduced in late 2004 (as a 2005 model). The 300 is still popular with consumers, and many owners enjoy customizing them. Stereo upgrades are popular customizations. If you want to install a new radio, you'll first need to remove the factory CD player. Chrysler 300 models come standard with either a single-disc CD player or a six-disc CD player, depending on the model.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Trim pry (optional)
  • Phillips screwdriver or socket wrench
  • Set the radio to "Transportation" before removing, if you have a Chrysler factory six-disc CD player. Turn your key to "Acc" and hold "Set" and "Disc" simultaneously. This will prevent an anti-theft lockout.

  • Unhook the ground (black) battery cable with a pair of pliers. Move the cable away from the battery post to prevent accidental contact.

  • Snap off the radio panel that extends to the air vents. You can use a trim-piece pry tool or your hands. Unplug the connections for the climate control and the analog clock. Move the panel out of the way.

  • Remove the four radio screws. You can use a Phillips screwdriver or a socket wrench (7mm).

  • Pull the radio from its mount slowly; it's still attached by a series of harnesses and plugs. Slide back the nut attached to the antenna cable, and then unplug the antenna cable.

  • Unplug the factory wiring harnesses. Completely remove the radio from its mount.
