How to Adjust a Bilstein PSS9

Bilstein has been a trusted name in aftermarket suspension parts for years. Its PSS9 line of adjustable shock absorbers have proven themselves to be of solid build quality and performance. The ability to manually adjust the ride height of these shocks is of huge advantage to motorists who require precision handling and control that can be varied to suit different driving terrain. Adjust your set of PSS9s is a simple matter of turning a few nuts, but the correct steps must be followed for safety and to maintain the longevity of the suspension setup.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Bilstein adjusting wrench
  • Jack up the front of the vehicle at a safe and solid jacking point. You should have clear access to the underside of either sock mount.

  • Remove the bright-blue rubber dust cap from the bottom of both front socks.

  • Turn the adjusting knob with the Bilstein tool included with the PSS9s clockwise to loosen and counterclockwise to tighten them. There are nine settings, labeled on the bottom facing side of the adjusting knob: nine is the loosest, one is the tightest. You will hear an audible "click" with every increment change.

  • Jack up the rear of the vehicle at a safe a solid jacking point to give clear access to the lower sections of either shock.

  • Locate the adjustment knob on the inboard side of either shock. There is no dust cover on the rear shocks, but the knob can be located as it is facing the center line of the vehicle. Adjust in the same order and fashion as with the fronts.
