How to Adjust a Turbo XS Blow Off Valve

A Blow Off valve, or BOV, is a component found in most turbocharged engines. It is used to release compressed air from the turbocharger to prevent it from surging and increasing wear on the engine. BOV's, such as those made by Turbo XS, must be adjusted to your engine after installation to ensure a smooth idle. By adding washers, or shims, to the BOV, you will adjust the spring tension to best fit the boost levels of your engine.

Things You'll Need

  • Adjustment washer
  • Park the vehicle in a location away from traffic. Open the hood of your car and locate the Turbo XS Blow Off Valve.

  • Unscrew the spring-loaded cap from the top of the BOV.

  • Remove the spring from the BOV.

  • Insert an adjustment washer into the BOV and replace the cap. Turbo XS BOV's come with six adjustment washers. If you do not have any washers, you can use a basic washer from any hardware store that has a diameter of about one inch.

  • Turn on your car to see if it idles smoothly. If it does not, insert another adjustment washer until it idles smoothly.
