How to Replace the Automatic Window Control on a 2007 Dodge Nitro

The 2007 Dodge Nitro came equipped with standard power windows and locks. The windows are raised and lowered by means of an automatic window control panel. Each door has a window control panel. The front door on the driver's side has a master panel that controls all of the windows. The other switches control only the window on that door. If your automatic window control is faulty, you can easily remove it and install a new one. The switch simply plugs into the wiring harness behind the door panel armrest.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench or pliers
  • Flat-bladed tool or plastic trim stick
  • Masking tape (optional)
  • Replacement automatic window control
  • Shut off the engine of your 2007 Dodge Nitro and open the hood. Loosen the negative battery cable nut with pliers or a wrench and pull the cable from the post to disconnect it.

  • Apply a strip of masking tape around the tip of your flat-bladed tool, unless you are using a plastic trim stick, which doesn't require masking tape. This will protect the plastic edge of the door panel as you are removing the old automatic window control.

  • Insert the tip of the blade or tool under the rear corner of the window control, between the control itself and the door panel armrest.

  • Push the tool's handle downward to pop up a section of the window control. Work around the perimeter of the window control with the tool, pushing down to pop up the remaining sides. Lift up the window control unit.

  • Locate the wiring harness connection on the other side. Grasp the base of the harness and pull it away from the window control to unplug it. Set the old window control to the side.

  • Connect the wiring harness to the new automatic window control. Insert it into the armrest cavity. Push the edges of the automatic window control down firmly to snap it into the armrest.
