How to Program a Ford Escape Car Key

Transponder keys have been desired accessories on cars around the world since the 1990s, and this technology allows owners to add an extra aspect of safety and convenience to their vehicles. Also known as a chip key or engine key, program the device to your Ford Escape in just minutes from your car using no professional experience or equipment--only your two previously programmed keys.

  • Insert your first working key into the car's ignition. Turn it "On" and then "Off" before removing the key.

  • Insert the second working key within five seconds. Cycle the key "On" and then "Off."

  • Remove the second key and insert your new key within five seconds.

  • Turn the new key to the "On" position, leave it there for one second and turn it off.

  • Wait for the car's security light to turn on for three seconds, then leave the key in the ignition for 10 minutes to complete the programming.
