Ford Keyless Remote Programming Instructions

Keyless entry remotes have been one of the most popular features on automobiles around the world since the mid-1990s. These tools allow for easy and remote access to your doors and trunk, and give you the ability to unlock your car's doors, sound your panic alarm, pre-start your car during the winter, and do it all from up to 100 feet away in most cases. These remotes can be purchased from a dealership with the car or independently, and can be programmed to your Ford car in just minutes.

Preparing

  • Programming a remote for a Ford vehicle is different than the programming procedure for many other vehicles. The programming on a Ford required a few steps instead of one important step that must be done correctly. Before you begin the programming, grab your remote, close all of the doors and windows on your Ford, as well as the trunk, and enter the car. Sit in the driver's seat and place the key into the ignition with your remote in your other hand.

Programming

  • With the key in the igntion, press and hold the lock button on your remote. Hold this button for around 10 seconds. As you hold the button, cycle the key in the ignition from the "Off" position two clicks to the right to the "On" position. This position will be one click short of actually turning the car on, and will allow your car to activate and the locking programming sequence to begin. Maintain your hold on the lock button and cycle the key back to "Off" and then back to "On." This will be the second cycle. Turn the key back to "On" six more times, for a total of eight cycles. This should all be done while holding the lock button and within about 10 seconds total.

Confirming

  • After you turn your key in the ignition to "On" for the eighth time, leave it for a second and wait for the car's locks to respond. The locks will click twice independently of you or the remote. At this time, release your hold on the lock button on the remote and cycle the key in the ignition back to the "Off" position. You can now press any button on your remote to finish the programming. If the car responds, the programming is finished and you are can exit the car and use your remote.
