How to Program a Chevy Astro Keyless Entry

Manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors, the Chevy Astro is a versatile mid-sized passenger van that can double as a cargo van. The Chevy Astro van was produced from the 1985 through the 2005 Chevrolet model years. Beginning in the 1990s, many Chevy Astro models offered a keyless entry feature that allowed owners to operate their van's power locks remotely via a small, programmable key fob.

  • Insert the Chevy Astro key into the van's ignition cylinder.

  • Press and hold the power "Unlock" button on the driver's side door. Continue to hold down the "Unlock" button throughout the programming process until you are directed to release it.

  • Turn the key in the ignition cylinder to the "On" position; turn the key as far as it will go before starting the engine. Toggle the key back and forth between the "On" and "Off" positions in this sequence: "On," "Off," "On," "Off."

  • Release the power "Unlock" button on the Chevy Astro door. Listen for the power locks to automatically complete a locking and unlocking cycle; this indicates that you have entered the van's programming mode.

  • Press and hold the "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons on the keyless entry remote until the power locks complete another automatic locking and unlocking cycle. Note that this may take up to 30 seconds.

  • Turn the key back to the "On" ignition position to exit the Astro's keyless entry programming mode.
