3M manufactures a large variety of tape solutions that are strong and durable for a permanent hold and tapes that remove easily for painting. 3M molding tape has acrylic foam sandwiched between a layer of durable tape on each side. The foam is ideal for the application of emblems and moldings on vehicles. One side of the tape sticks to an emblem while the foam compresses on a vehicle to secure two items that are not flat without any air inside the two items for a long lasting bond.
Mix a slightly soapy solution of dish soap and water in a bowl.
Dip a washcloth in the soap solution, and clean the mounting surface thoroughly.
Rinse the mounting surface with clean water and let it dry completely.
Pour isopropyl alcohol on a clean washcloth or other soft cloth.
Rub the area for attachment in circles to clean the surface thoroughly. Reapply alcohol, and clean the area until there is no residue on the washcloth.
Pour alcohol on the item to attach to the surface. Rub it in circles to clean any substances off.
Allow the surfaces of both the item and the attachment area to dry thoroughly. This will only take about two minutes as alcohol evaporates quickly.
Cut a piece of 3M tape larger than the item to attach to the surface with scissors.
Place the 3M tape on the item, and trim it with scissors to the shape of the object.
Peel the backing off one side of the tape and stick it to the item.
Peel the backing off the second side of the tape, position it on the clean surface, and press it firmly in place.
