There have been hundreds of safety innovations made to cars over the years, and one of the more recent ones is the backup camera. These turn on when you're backing up, giving you a clear view of the ground behind you, as well as any potential obstacles, such as children or toys. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2010 Toyota Prius, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.
Place your foot on the brake and push the power button to turn on the car. Once the dash lights up, place your right hand on the gear shift knob and shift it to the "R" position.
Look at the in-dash monitor just above the gear shifter. When you place the car in gear, the backup camera automatically turns on and shows the image behind you exactly how it would appear in a rearview mirror. Look at the camera as you back up, periodically checking your other mirrors for hazards. Take note for any objects that could damage your tires, or that you could damage with the car.
Place your foot on the brake and put the car in the "D" position. The camera automatically turns off and the display reverts to the stereo or navigation, whichever you have equipped.
