Programming Instructions for a Toyota Keyless Entry

All the benefits of having a keyless entry system installed in your Toyota come from being able to control your vehicle from your keyless entry remote. If the remote is not programmed, you can not use your keyless entry. Programming the remote does not require any tools, as the entire process is done by interacting with the doors, ignition and the remote. The process only takes a couple of minutes of your time to complete.

  • Open and unlock the driver's door. Within 5 seconds, insert the key into the ignition, and then pull the key out and do it once more. Within 40 seconds, close and open the driver's door, and then do this once more. Insert the key into the ignition and pull the key out.

  • Close then open the driver's door within 40 seconds, then repeat this again. Insert the key into ignition and close the driver's door. Turn the key to the "ON" position but do not start the engine. Turn the key to the "Off" position and remove the key from the ignition. The power doors lock then unlock indicating entry into the programming mode.

  • Press the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds within 40 seconds of the vehicle entering the programming mode. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the "Lock" button by itself and hold for two seconds. Within three seconds, the doors lock then unlock to indicate the remote has been programed. Open driver's door to exit the programming mode.
