What Size Rims Can Go on a 1996 Nissan Pickup?

Nissan might not always have been the first name people think of when they shop for pickups here in the U.S., but they've been the last word for many for decades. Outside America's borders, the Nissan and Toyota pickup battle has been raging as fiercely as Ford's and Chevy's has here -- but, in truth, it's very hard to go wrong with either.

Wheels

  • The 1996 Nissan used six-lug wheels, with a 6-139 bolt pattern. Factory sizes included 14-by-6 inches and 15-by-7 inches, and the wheels come in some rather, call it "interesting," styles. As of 2014, a non-chrome, alloy wheel will run you about $140, while chrome OEM wheels will cost about double that. The Nissan's wheel openings allow for 8-inch-wide wheels with 3.7 inches of backspacing and negative 19 mm of offset, or 10-inch-wide wheels with negative 38 to 44 mm of offset. The latter will allow you to fit some healthy 32-by-11.5-15 off-road tires, but you'll almost certainly need to lift the truck by three to four inches to make them useful. If you're more into low-riding, a set of 18-inch rims and 235/40-18 tires will fit, provided you use a zero offset and five inches of backspacing.
