How to Determine the Original Color of Your Corvette

If you are restoring your Corvette, you want to match the original color. However, knowing the original color of a Corvette can be difficult, especially with older models that may have been repainted several times. Most cars, including Corvettes, have a color code stamped somewhere on the vehicle. Referencing this code will tell you the original color of the Corvette.

  • Look in the glove box for a small label that says "Service Parts Identification." It might be located on the door or the left side of the glove box's interior. If you can't find it in the glove box, look under the hood or behind the middle console. In some cases, you might find it under the left compartment lid, under the rear storage, or possibly on top of the drive shaft tunnel.

  • Locate the code at the bottom, which starts with "BC/CC" followed by a code similar to "U 8554." BC/CC stands for basecoat/clearcoat, and U stands for upper or body color. Identify the number at the end.

  • Look up the code in a reference, such Corvette Paint Codes (see Resources). Refer to the "WA Code" list. Find the code in the list, which will identify the original color.
