How to Remove a Scratch With Wax

While not every scratch can be buffed out with wax, shallow scratches that do not go into the car's primer paint as well as swirl marks can be sufficiently covered by properly applying wax to the affected area. Though the best protection from scratches is regular upkeep, with the right supplies and technique, car owners can have their vehicle gleaming and free of little imperfections in just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Warm water
  • Car soap
  • Sponge
  • Soft, clean towel
  • Clean the scratched area of the car with warm water, soap and a sponge. Debris and other particles can get into a scratch and make it deeper. Make sure the area is clean, dry and cool to the touch before waxing.

  • Apply wax to the included sponge or applicator. To start, use a small dollop, about the size of a quarter.

  • Rub the wax on the scratched area of the car with the applicator. Move in circular motions to create a thin, even layer.

  • Wait for a minute or two while the wax sits, or hazes.

  • Buff the area with a clean, soft towel. Move in circular motions, until the car shines and the scratch is gone.
