Truck tool boxes, running boards and storage containers are a few common uses for aluminum diamond plate. When exposed to outside elements, aluminum diamond plate corrodes, reducing its shine. The white corrosion will pit the surface of the aluminum if left unchecked for an extended time. Removing the corrosion and restoring the shine of your aluminum diamond plate requires some hard work and a few hours of time, but the work pays off with a longer lasting and new looking accessory.
Apply the combination aluminum cleaner and polish to a piece of steel wool.
Rub the aluminum diamond plate vigorously with the steel wool to remove the corrosion from the surface of the accessory. Depending on the size of the accessory and the amount of corrosion on the aluminum diamond plate, you may need to repeat this step multiple times to remove all the corrosion from the part.
Attach the lamb's wool buffing pad to the electric buffing wheel and, while the aluminum diamond plate is still wet with the cleaner/polish, run the buffing pad over the surface of the accessory.
Liberally apply additional aluminum cleaner and polish to the surface of the aluminum diamond plate and continue running the buffing wheel over the surface to remove any scratches left by the steel wool.
Pour the combination aluminum cleaner and polish on a clean rag and manually clean any areas of the aluminum diamond plate that have dark areas remaining after the buffing process.
Wipe down the entire part with the aluminum cleaner/polish soaked rag.
Use a clean dry rag to buff the aluminum diamond plate to shine like new.
