How to Clean Car Plastic

With proper care, plastic interior parts in a car can last a long time. Cleaning and maintenance can keep the plastic car parts looking new. Interior parts such as dash boards and center consoles are examples of plastic parts that can benefit from routine cleaning. Using the right products on interior plastic is important to the life of the car interior. All it takes is these three simple steps to properly clean car plastic.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloths
  • Automotive plastic cleaner and protectant
  • Vacuum with crevice tool attachment
  • Clean all plastic surfaces with a damp soft cloth to get the majority of the dirt and dust from the plastic. If the cloth gets very dirty, clean with soap and water before using again.

  • Lightly spray automotive plastic cleaner and protectant directly onto a clean dry cloth. Work on one small section of the car plastic at a time. Clean the small section with the cloth and plastic cleaner. Dry the section with a dry cloth, and then move to the next section.

  • Vacuum crevices and vents using a vacuum with a crevice attatchment.

  • Clean the plastic again with a cloth that has automotive plastic cleaner and protective cleaner sprayed on it. This second cleaning will remove any dust and dirt that were dispersed onto the plastic during the vacuuming process as well as provide a nice luster to the plastic. Large sections should be worked one at a time.

  • Dry all plastic with a clean dry cloth.
