How to Clean a Honda Accord

"Car and Driver Magazine" has named the Honda Accord one of the 10 best cars 25 times as of 2011, which is more than any other car. It could be one reason so many people drive Accords and do their best to keep their vehicle in tip-top shape. Cleaning your Accord shouldn't take more than an afternoon, but ensure you do it correctly to extend the life and look of your vehicle.

Things You'll Need

  • Vacuum with hand attachment
  • Carpet and upholstery cleaner
  • Window cleaner
  • Leather and vinyl cleaner
  • Car wash soap
  • 2 Buckets
  • Hose
  • Natural sea sponges
  • Scrubbing sponge
  • Old towels
  • Microfiber towels

Interior

  • Vacuum the entire inside of the car, including the dash, the cracks in the seats and pull out the floor mats. Vacuum the floor mat mats and the carpet underneath them. Most Accords have a large trunk, so open it, empty it out and vacuum inside.

  • Use carpet and upholstery cleaner on spots according to manufacturer's directions if your car has fabric seats. If the seats are vinyl and leather -- it is usually a combination in Accord -- just clean the carpet spots.

  • Use an old towel sprayed with Simple Green to wipe down the dash, doors and other hard surfaces inside the car. Spray window cleaner on the interior of the windows and wipe until dry with a mircofiber towel.

  • Use a combination leather and vinyl cleaner on the seats and armrests. Spray the product on and wipe off with a microfiber towel. Be careful to get into all the crevices.

Exterior Cleaning

  • Park your car in the shade to avoid water spots. Rinse the entire Accord with the hose to remove the top layer of dirt and debris.

  • Fill two buckets, one with the car soap mixed according to its directions, the other with clean water. Use a scrubbing sponge and clean the tires and rims. Before you dip your sponge back into the soap bucket, rinse it out in the clean water bucket so your soap does not get dirty right away. When the tires and rims are clean, rinse them with the hose.

  • Dump your two buckets and start again, filling up a soap bucket and fresh water bucket. Use a natural sea sponge to soap up the car starting at the top and working your way down to the grimy bottom of the car.

  • Rinse the Accord with the hose. Repeat the process with fresh soap and water buckets if the car is still dirty.

  • Dry the car with a microfiber towel.
