How to Remove Mildew on a WaveRunner Cover

A WaveRunner is a personal watercraft that requires protection from the elements to keep it working properly. Specially designed covers will protect the watercraft and its paint job while helping to extend its life. As of June 2011, WaveRunner covers cost up to $200. But you have to look after the cover, too. If it's stored in a dark and humid environment while damp, mildew will grow on it, leaving unsightly stains. Remove the mildew and its musty odor with a few household items.

Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Lay the WaveRunner cover on a clean, level surface. Spread the cover out flat with the mildew facing upward.

  • Fill a spray bottle with equal parts cool water and white vinegar. Vinegar will kill mold and mildew without using harsh chemicals that could damage the cover.

  • Spray the mildew with the diluted vinegar and wipe with a damp lint-free cloth. Not only will the vinegar remove the mildew, it will also eliminate musty smells.

  • Continue spraying and wiping the WaveRunner cover until you have removed all traces of the mildew. Let the cover air dry.

  • Spray the WaveRunner cover with the diluted vinegar whenever you clean the watercraft. This will help keep mold and mildew at bay. Clean the WaveRunner before long periods of storage or twice a year.
