How to Remove Bugs From Paint

Spring and summer months are when the bug population makes its comeback. No matter where you live, bugs seem to multiply and find your car. Bug spatter on your car's exterior can easily get baked on and embedded in the paint if it is not cleaned off right away. Scrubbing off those pesky bugs can get frustrating, but there are many products on the market that will safely and effectively remove the bug remains if used correctly.

Things You'll Need

  • Tar and Bug Remover
  • Microfiber Cloth
  • Safe Scrub Bug Sponge
  • Water
  • Wax or Sealant
  • Wash off bug splatter as quickly as possible. The sooner you can clean it off the easier it will lift from the paint.

  • Spray a gentle bug and tar remover directly on the bug mess and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen the debris.

  • Wipe away the bug remains with a microfiber cloth, a 2-in-1 wash mitt on the bug scrubbing side or a Safe Scrub Bug Sponge that has been soaked in warm water for at least three minutes to soften its surface. These cleaning aids will not scratch the paint on your automobile.

  • Clean the surface completely until all of the mess has disappeared and the surface is smooth.

  • Apply paint protection like a wax or spray sealant to the surface where you have used bug and tar remover in case the cleaning agent has washed away any of the protection.
