How to Remove Tough Car Stains

Tough stains in your car upholstery or on the outside of your vehicle can make your automobile look dingy and uncared for. Some home remedies can save you the cost of taking your car to an auto shop for a professional cleaning, which can sometimes be expensive. These remedies use materials you may already have on hand.

Things You'll Need

  • Toothpaste
  • Rags
  • Spray bottle
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Rub a dime-size dollop of white gel toothpaste into upholstery stains such as lipstick stains. Rub off the toothpaste off with a damp rag.

  • Mix equal parts baking soda and water in a spray bottle and spray onto stains such as gasoline or food. Let this sit for about two hours. Rub a damp rag over the spot to remove the baking soda mixture.

  • Mix equal parts white vinegar with water in a spray bottle and spray over grease or gasoline stains. Let it sit for about an hour. Rub away the stain and vinegar with a damp rag.

  • Move your car to a shaded area if you notice water spots on the outside of your vehicle. Let the vehicle cool. Mix equal parts distilled water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the water stains with the solution and wipe away with a clean cloth.
