Resetting the Service Light on a 2012 Dodge Ram

In the last few years Dodge has made changes made to their Ram pick-up line. Whether you purchase the 1500, 2500, or even the 3500 line heavy-duty trucks you are getting a vehicle with a great looking interior and exterior, as well as a number of available options to choose from. There were a number of engines available, depending on what model you went with. You could purchase this truck with anything from the 3.7-liter V-6, the 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi, up to the Cummins Turbo Diesel. No matter which engine you go with, maintenance should be your top priority if you want years of trouble free mileage.

The Purpose of the Maintenance Reminder Light

  • Ram uses what is known as the "oil life monitoring system" to remind you when to have your oil changed. Due to the advancements in oil and filter technology, the days of simply changing your oil every 3,500 miles are long gone. The monitoring system in your Ram uses a combination of information such as miles driven, engine speed, engine temperature and time to calculate the best time to change your oil. You need to reset the system after you've changed the oil.

Resetting the Maintenance Reminder Light

  • Sit inside of the vehicle with the door closed. Turn the ignition key on to the run position without starting or cranking the engine. Fully press and release the brake pedal two times. Press and release the accelerator pedal fully two times within ten seconds. Turn the ignition key off. The light should not come back on when the vehicle is restarted.
