Due to the amount of heat generated around the axle and the usage on the wheel hub assembly, the hub assembly can adhere to the axle to the point that it gets stuck when you are trying to remove it. You can remove a stuck rear hub assembly with a little patience and persistence. The debris or grease between the wheel hub and axle often creates a vacuum, causing the hub to stick. Penetrating oil and a rubber mallet will often do the trick.
Place the vehicle transmission in "Park" and set the emergency brake before attempting to remove the stuck rear hub assembly. Place wood blocks behind the front wheels and loosen the lug nuts one full turn on the wheel you are removing with a tire tool.
Lift the rear end of the vehicle up with a floor jack and slide a jack stand under the vehicle frame, near the wheel. Lower the floor jack so the vehicle is sitting on the jack stand.
Remove the lug nuts with the tire tool and set the wheel out of the way. Unfasten the bolts on the top and bottom of the brake caliper with a socket wrench and remove the bolts by hand.
Take the brake pads out of the brake caliper and suspend the caliper from the vehicle frame with a wire hanger. Slide the brake rotor off the wheel hub and set it aside.
Pry the end cap off the axle with a standard screwdriver and remove the cotter pin from the axle with a pair of pliers. Take the crown washer off the axle and unfasten the axle nut with a crescent wrench.
Unfasten the bolts on the back of the wheel hub assembly with a socket wrench. Tap the wheel hub assembly on both the front and back with a rubber mallet until it comes loose from the axle.
Place some liquid wrench around the inside lip of the wheel hub if it is still stuck and let it work for a few minutes. Tap the wheel hub assembly again with the rubber mallet until it comes loose and remove it from the axle.
