The Honda Pilot, first introduced in 2003, is designed as one of the first mid-sized SUV (sport utility vehicle) crossovers. According to the Edmunds' website, the Honda Pilot offers "decent V6 power, above-average fuel economy, easy maneuverability" and a whole slew of detail-oriented comforts and features for which Honda is known. The Honda Pilot can fit up to eight people or can be used for extra interior storage by laying down the back seat, which folds flat.
Look behind your Pilot's back seat in order to double-check that the area is clear. Even if you are correctly releasing the pins for folding the seat down, if there is something blocking the range of motion for the seat, you will not be able to fold down the seat. Also check to make sure that there are not any smaller times located near the hinges that could be blocking the seat from folding down.
Locate the latch and handle mechanisms on the sides of the rear seats. The passenger and driver's side rear seats both have their own individual levers for releasing the seat to fold forward. Pull the latch and fold the seat forward. Check to make sure that the folded seat and headrest are not touching the back of the driver or passenger seats, which can impair the functioning of the weight sensors.
Lift the seats up in order to return them to the upright position, listening for a click to indicate that the seats are locked into place.
Release the latch plate in order to release the detachable anchor from the seat belt. If needed, lower the headrests to the lowest possible position. Make sure the second row seat-backs are either folded down or are fully upright, which will enable the third row seats to be folded properly.
Pull on the handles on the back panel of the third row seats. The handles are located on the near the lower corners of the rear set panel. Push the back of the third row seats forward while still holding the handle down. Make sure that the seat belts are nested in their appropriate holding slots on the side panel.
Feel around for any blockages or partial movement if something is jammed in the seat and is preventing it from folding properly. Also make sure that nothing is located in the storage compartment where the seats are folding into.
