How to Reset Daytime Running Lights in an Acura

Daytime running lights, also known as DRLs, are a speciality headlights that remain lit as long as the a car is on and running. In a Danish report -- Accident Analysis & Prevention -- researchers found that daytime running lights significantly reduced multiple-vehicle crashes and head-on collisions during the day because of increased driver visibility.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Turn off all the exterior lights. These include headlights and parking lights.

  • Remove the headlight assembly by taking off the outer trim. Remove the screws connected to the retaining ring; remove the ring and pull out the headlight.

  • Remove the rubber caps from the wiring. Remove the headlight from the housing and set it aside.

  • Start your vehicle and let it run for 5 minutes.

  • Replace the rubber caps on the wiring. Reconnect the headlights and push them back into the housing. Put the retaining ring back on, screw the ring into place and reattach the outer trim. Drive your car for at least 15 miles to complete the DTR reset.
