How to Repair the Linkage on a Windshield Wiper

The linkage on the windshield wiper of your automobile, which is connected to the output arm of the wiper, is moved back and forth by the wiper motor. Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet and socket
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable using a ratchet and socket, then lift the wiper arm up until the wiper arm locks vertically. Remove the wiper arm from the linkage using a ratchet and socket.

  • Locate the wiper motor under the hood along the firewall, and remove the wiper motor using a ratchet and socket. The linkage will now be exposed.

  • Remove the bracket that connects the two wiper linkages using a ratchet and socket, then pull the wiper linkage out by hand.

  • Install the new linkage, then reinstall the linkage-to-linkage bracket using a ratchet and socket. Reinstall the wiper motor and wiper arm using a ratchet and socket, then reattach the battery cable.
