Adding power steering fluid to a Subaru is the same process as in most cars. The power steering fluid is held in a reservoir and is used to enable the power steering pump to assist in turning the steering wheel. An improperly maintained power steering system will make the car hard to turn. Subaru owner's manuals recommend using Dexron II power steering fluid, which is available from any local automotive parts store.
Ensure the car is turned off. Open the hood for access to the power steering reservoir.
Look to the passenger side of the engine compartment. Locate the power steering reservoir next to the alternator.
Shine a flashlight on the reservoir. The reservoir is see-through, and the level is visible through the reservoir. The level should be between the two markings on the reservoir.
Twist the cap counterclockwise and place it to the side. Pour in power steering fluid until the level is even with the top mark on the reservoir.
Twist the cap clockwise on to the reservoir. Close the hood.
