How to Find the Right Paint for My Nissan

Whether your car is new or old, getting a scratch or ding is never welcome. Beyond the fact that such trauma can damage the body of your car, its most conspicuous sign is the lack of paint on the scratch spot. If you drive a Nissan, your car has a certification label that contains, among other things, the code for your Nissan paint color, so that you can match it exactly.

  • Open your driver's side front door and look for the "F.M.V.S.S." certification label near where the door meets the body of your car. The color code, which will be two letters followed by a number (KH3, for example), will be located near the bottom of the tag.

  • If you cannot locate the color code on the door, pop your hood and look for the code on the fire plate, which is the flat piece of metal located directly around the hood latch. Regardless of whether the code is located here or on the door, it will be a combination of two letters and a number, such as KT5.

  • Call Nissan Accessories at 1-888-287-4026 if you can't find your number or if you believe your label has been removed. The associate will be able to help you determine your paint color using another method.

  • Visit your nearest Nissan dealer and present the color code to the front desk representative. Inform her that you'd like to purchase touch-up paint in that color. Test the paint on your Nissan before you leave the dealership to make sure it matches, keeping in mind that you'll need to wait for it to dry before being sure.
