The oil change light in your 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, also known as the oil service light, is a warning indicator that your vehicle may need servicing at a Volkswagen dealership or auto shop. However, the oil change light is simple to reset. This can be done without going to a Volkswagen dealership or auto shop. It can be accomplished using a Service Light Plus airbag reset tool, which can be obtained from most auto parts stores. Or, you can use your Volkswagen Jetta's reset button.

  • Service Light Plus airbag reset tool

Using the Service Light Plus airbag reset tool

  • Attach the Service Light Plus airbag reset tool into your Jetta's data link connector, by placing the reset tool's built-in plug into your Jetta's data link connector. The data link connector is a small plastic slot that is built in the vehicle, under the driver's side of the Volkswagen's dashboard, near by the hood release latch.

  • Switch on your Jetta's ignition and wait for the tool's screen to enlighten.

  • Select "Volkswagen" and then press "OK." Then select "Jetta" and then press "OK" again.

  • Select "Reset of Oil Service Light" and then press "OK."

  • Switch off your Jetta's ignition and remove the tool.

Using your Jetta's reset button

  • Switch on your Jetta's ignition.

  • Press the reset button. The reset button is built in the vehicle's instrument panel and is located by the speedometer.

  • Hold down the reset button until the oil service light turns off and then let go of the reset button.

  • Switch off your Jetta's ignition.
