How to Remove a Cavalier's Windshield

Taking off your Cavalier's windshield yourself instead of visiting a professional can be a way to save money. Nevertheless, removing and replacing a windshield requires strict adherence to safety precautions, especially if the glass is cracked or shattered. Windshield glass is commonly held in place with a urethane or silicone adhesive that must be cut away to break its seal. If you have access to an assistant, they will be helpful for safely removing your windshield.

Things You'll Need

  • Safety gloves
  • Safety goggles
  • Face protection
  • Screwdriver kit
  • Windshield knife
  • Windshield pry bar
  • Put on your safety goggles, gloves and face protection before handling the glass, especially if the windshield is cracked or shattered.

  • Slide a flathead screwdriver underneath the weather stripping along the windshield edge. Afterward, you should be able to easily pull the stripping off.

  • Slice the windshield adhesive, which is normally black in color, with a windshield knife or razor blade by sliding the blade along the windshield edge.

  • Pull up the edges of the windshield carefully with the windshield pry bar. If you have an assistant, have them help lift the windshield off the frame.
