The spare tire winch on the Dodge Ram is located under the cargo bed. The winch allows you to lower the spare tire from the underside of the Ram's chassis when you need it. Accessing the winch is simple. Always raise the winch back to its original position so the winch cable is not dragging on the ground.
Park the truck on a flat and level surface. Set the parking brake. Chock the wheels to ensure the truck does not roll while being raised.
Locate the hardware included to lower the spare tire. They should be in a leather or vinyl pouch behind the seat, unless they've been moved following the purchase of the Toyota.
Crawl under the back of the truck. The spare tire is located under the bed directly behind the license plate. The winch holds the wheel up and secures it so it does not move while the truck is in motion.
Look for the circular hole between the bottom of the tailgate and the bumper. Insert the tool into the hole to access the nut to lower the winch. Turn the tool counterclockwise to activate and lower the winch. Stop turning when the wheel is on the ground. Push one end of the clip down to pull it out from the wheel.
