How to Replace a 1995 Buick LeSabre Gas Filter

The 1995 Buick LeSabre features an in-line gas filter that is attached to the frame rail in front of the rear passenger side tire. The gas filter removes impurities from the gasoline that the fuel pump is sending to the engine. If the LeSabre is stalling while you are driving, you're having trouble accelerating the car, or it won't start, a faulty or clogged gas filter may be the culprit. Changing this component shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper towels
  • Car jack
  • Jack stand
  • 2 crescent wrenches
  • Latex gloves
  • Drain pan
  • Gas filter #2619-01050088
  • Open the hood of the Buick LeSabre. Locate the banjo bolt on the fuel rail near the fuel injectors. Loosen this bolt with your crescent wrench to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines. Wipe up any gasoline that leaks out of the bolt.

  • Engage the parking brake. Raise the passenger side of the LeSabre with your car jack. Rest the LeSabre on a jack stand to give yourself extra protection from the car moving.

  • Put on your gloves. Slide the drain pan below the gas filter.

  • Unscrew the outlet pipe, the one heading to the engine, from the gas filter with your crescent wrench. Direct the pipe toward the drain pan to allow the pan to collect any leaking gas.

  • Release the quick connector holding the inlet pipe to the inlet stem on the gas filter. The inlet pipe is the one coming from the gas tank. Release the quick connector by pressing its two tabs together. Pull the inlet pipe off of the gas filter's stem. Direct the inlet pipe toward the drain pan to allow gas to flow into it.

  • Loosen the bolt on the mounting bracket holding the gas filter against the frame rail. Pull out the gas filter.

  • Insert a replacement gas filter into the bracket. Orient the outlet and inlet faces in the same direction as the old gas filter. Connect the outlet and inlet pipes to the gas filter. Tighten the bolt on the mounting bracket.

  • Close the banjo bolt on the fuel rail in the engine bay. Turn on the LeSabre. Wait a few seconds. Turn it off again. Repeat this process a few more times until the engine cranks. This action repressurizes the gas system. Check below the LeSabre for any gasoline leaks and retighten any fittings that are leaking. Remove the jack stand and car jack.
