How to Replace a HHR Headlamp Bulb

The HHR is a station wagon type SUV designed and manufactured by General Motors, sold under the Chevrolet name brand. The HHR headlamps are equipped with halogen lightbulbs. Over time, the bulb in the headlamp may burn out and need to be replaced. You can replace the bulb yourself with no tools required. It's important to replace the bulbs immediately to ensure safe driving and to avoid a traffic violation.

  • Park the HHR and turn the engine off. Allow the vehicle to cool down for twenty minutes to ensure no components are hot to the touch.

  • Turn the wheel that corresponds with the headlight bulb to be replaced outward.

  • Remove each fastener located on the wheel liner. Pull down the fasteners to unlock them. This will give you access to the bulbs.

  • To locate the headlamp bulb, reach your hand behind the wheel well liner. You will feel two bulbs. The headlamp bulb is the farthest away. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and discard.

  • Push the replacement bulb into the socket. You will hear the bulb click into place. Do not twist the bulb, as it will cause it to break. Reinstall the well liner fasteners. Repeat these steps for the opposite bulb, if needed.
