How to Remove Dome Lights on a BMW

The dome lights of a BMW are located above the rear-view mirror within the interior of the car. BMW dome lights are reachable from the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle, turning on or off with the push of a finger. Dome lights offer a convenient and safe way to view directions or objects at night and add style to the interior. Do-it-yourself BMW interior light removal is a time-efficient and money-saving upgrade.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Insert your flat-head screwdriver in the crevice of the plastic dome housing that faces the rear of the vehicle. Push the flat-head screwdriver upward to pry open and loosen the plastic dome housing from the plastic tabs beneath.

  • Depress both sides of the plastic piece attached to the end of the wire to disconnect it from the dome light housing. Allow the wire to hang. Place the dome housing in a plastic zip-close bag for re-installation.

  • Twist the dome lights 90 degrees counterclockwise to remove them from their holders located underneath the dome light housing units.

  • Place OEM or LED xenon bulbs in the light bulb holders and rotate them 90 degrees clockwise to secure them.

  • Reattach the hanging wire to the dome light housing unit. Reposition the part of the dome light housing that faces the front of the vehicle first. Apply pressure to snap the rest of the dome housing into place.
