The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube in your PT Cruiser helps protect both your car and the environment. Attached to the end of the EGR tube is an EGR valve. The EGR valve draws unburned fuel fumes into the exhaust manifold and recirculates them back into the engine. The EGR valve and tube assembly also prevent the unburned exhaust gases from reaching the atmosphere and combining with other elements to produce pollution and smog. Remove the EGR valve on your PT when it needs to be serviced or replaced.
Park the PT Cruiser, set the parking brake and wait for the engine to cool down before proceeding.
Disconnect the negative, black battery cable from the battery with a wrench.
Unscrew the EGR tube from the manifold with a socket wrench. The EGR tube is located on the rear of the intake manifold, towards the back of the engine compartment. The tube is black and about 1 inch in diameter.
Unbolt the other end of the EGR tube from the engine block with the socket wrench.
