How to Reset the Oil Light on a 2003 GMC Envoy

The 2003 GMC Envoy uses the onboard computer to determine when oil changes are needed. The GM Oil Life System shows an estimate of the oil's remaining useful life according to the computer's calculations. The oil light is displayed on the dashboard control panel when it is time for an engine oil change. Many automobile mechanics will reset the oil life indicator when they change the oil in the Envoy. If the technician does not reset the oil life, or if you change the oil yourself, the oil light can be manually reset. Once it is reset, the light will not come on again until the next time an oil change is needed.

Things You'll Need

  • Ignition key
  • Insert the key into the ignition.

  • Move the ignition switch to the "Run" position. Do not turn it far enough to start the engine, as the oil light cannot be reset when the engine is running.

  • Press the accelerator pedal fully and release it three separate times within a five-second period. This resets the oil light.
