Serpentine Belt Removal from the Chevrolet Corsica

The Chevrolet Corsica uses a serpentine belt traversing several pulleys to transfer engine power to the accessories. Removing the belt requires loosening the auto-tensioner to put slack in the belt. Always note how the belt is run on all the pulleys to ensure that you replace it correctly. In some cases the belt diagram is located near the hood latch, but sketching the diagram will make sure that you remember the proper belt path.

Things You'll Need

  • 9/16-inch wrench
  • Park the car on a flat and level surface. Take the keys out of the ignition.

  • Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. Locate the auto-tensioner pulley under the alternator and to the left.

  • Unscrew the bolt on the auto-tensioner counter-clockwise with a 9/16-inch wrench to loosen the tensioner. Pull the belt off the tensioner pulley.

  • Pull the belt off the remaining pulleys. Pull the belt toward the alternator and out of the engine compartment.
