The PT Cruiser uses two headlight assemblies that contain all the headlight and turn-signal bulbs, as opposed to some larger models that may have additional housings for things like fog lights. If one of the headlight assemblies is cracked, broken or otherwise damaged, you need to remove it for replacement. You need to access the assembly from underneath the car, which can be a bit challenging given the car's low clearance. Installing the assembly is the reverse of removal.
Raise the front end of the car and support it on jack stands, then remove the front wheel next to the headlight you are going to remove.
Remove the fender-well splash shield for the wheel you just removed, unscrewing its fasteners with a flare-nut wrench.
Open the hood and remove the four bolts at the top edge of the radiator grille using the wrench. Pull the grille out of the car body and pull its locating tabs out of the body to remove the grille.
Remove the three fasteners connecting the bumper to the fender to open up more space for the headlight housing. You may also need to remove at least one of the bumper-to-radiator crossmember bolts with a wrench.
Unscrew and remove the retaining nuts for the headlight housing; the nuts are accessible in the fender well. Detach the housing, pull it out of the car and disconnect the bulb electrical connectors.
Rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it out of the housing.
