Portable Carport Instructions

A portable car port provides instant outdoor shelter for a car or an outdoor gathering. Far from a pop-up canopy model, portable car ports do require a few tools to put the unit together. Constructed of lightweight aluminum or vinyl, the carport framing is sturdy enough to handle mild wind, and its canopy protects the area underneath from the rain or sunshine. Follow the specific instructions and safety warnings for your car port assembly.

The Roof

  • Assemble the roof first. Insert and fasten together the roofing poles that extend outward from the central pole and pitch on a downward angle to the sides. Depending on the size of your carport, there will be at least three roofing poles on each side of the central pole.

Tighten the screws or bolts using a power drill, which will prevent your carport from wobbling in the wind. Lift the roof with the help of a friend or two and position it where the portable carport will be.

Finish the Frame

  • Insert each leg pole into the mounting hardware at the end of each roofing pole on one side of the portable car port. Tighten the provided screws with a power drill. On the same side, attach the base assembly support that stabilizes the sides to the bottom of the vertical poles connected to the roof frame. Tighten the screws.

Go to the other side of the roof and connect the front and rear vertical poles to the hardware at the end of the roof frame. Have two people lift the roof to provide support as you insert and fasten these poles to the roof frame. Insert the middle poles once the unit is supported at the two ends and screw each part to secure.

Lift the same side of the unit to insert the base frame support that will rest on the ground. Fasten these pieces together using screws and a drill.

Installing the Cover

  • Drape the cloth cover over the roof and extend it from the front to the back. If the cover is a metal sheet, install this before installing the legs to easily reach the hardware to secure it to the frame.

Spread and stretch the carport cover across the entire roof. Smooth it out and let it hang down on both sides. Fasten the lower edge of the roof covering to the vertical poles on both sides of the carport using the provided hardware.

Anchor the portable carport using the provided anchors to a non-concrete or non-asphalt surface, or tie it to a nearby tree using ropes, even though the weight of the unit is heavy enough to stabilize its position.
