How to Reset a Tire With Tire Pressure Monitors

The tire-pressure monitor system (TPMS) on your vehicle monitors the tire pressure inside the tires to warn you if they are under-inflated. Because under-inflated tires can blow out, causing a car accident, the TPMS could save your life. When the TPMS light does come on, make sure that you correct your car's tire pressure right away. To turn off the TPMS indicator afterward, you'll need to know how to reset the system.

  • Turn the ignition key to the "run" position but do not crank the engine.

  • Press and hold the trip meter reset button below or above the odometer on yoru car's instrument panel.

  • Release the odometer trip meter button after the TPMS light on your vehicle shuts off.
