How to Reset a Fuel Filter Light in a Chevy 5500

The fuel filter light in your Chevy 5500 comes on when maintenance is required on your fuel filter. This normally means just changing the filter. Since the fuel filter is responsible for filtering out contaminates in the gasoline, it's important that you replace this filter when the light comes on. Replacement filters can be purchased from most auto parts stores. Once you've replaced the filter, the fuel filter light should go out. However, if it does not, then you'll need to manually reset the light.

  • Open the fuse panel by pulling down on the fuse panel cover in the driver's side foot well using your fingers.

  • Locate the fuse for the ECM, the electronic control module, using the fuse diagram on the underside of the fuse panel cover.

  • Pull the fuse for the ECM using the fuse pullers in the fuse box.

  • Turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Then wait five minutes before replacing the ECM fuse. The fuel filter light will go out as the trouble codes in the ECM are erased.
