How to Change a Front Turn Signal Bulb on a 2005 Dodge RAM 2500

The front turn signal bulb on the 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 is located in the headlight assembly. The bulb, number 3157A, is an amber dual-filament bulb and is available from the Dodge dealer, an auto parts store or even some department stores. Replacement of the bulb requires the removal of the headlight assembly, as access to the lights is from the rear of the assembly.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat screwdriver
  • Socket set
  • Ratchet
  • Dielectric grease
  • Open the hood of your Dodge Ram pickup and locate the black welting that runs down the inside edge of the headlight. Remove the two plastic rivets from the welting using a flat screwdriver to pry them out. Remove the welting and set it aside.

  • Remove the two retaining bolts from the inside edge of the headlight assembly with a socket and ratchet. Locate the mounting bolt under the outside edge of the headlight assembly. Insert a socket with an extension to reach the bolt, then attach a ratchet and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.

  • Pull the headlight assembly forward and locate the bulb and socket on the rear, outside edge of the headlight assembly. Turn the socket a quarter turn counterclockwise and remove it from the back of the assembly. Pull the old bulb out of the socket and discard it.

  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the bulb socket then push the new 3157A bulb into the socket until it fully seats. Install the socket into the rear of the headlight assembly and turn it clockwise to lock it in place. Slide the headlight assembly back into the truck and install the three mounting bolts, tightening them with a socket and ratchet.

  • Install the plastic welting along the inner edge of the headlight assembly. Push the plastic rivets into the holes to secure it. Test the lights by turning the headlight switch on and verifying that the lights are working correctly. Close the hood or move to the second headlight and repeat the process for the opposite bulb.
