How to Remove a Lexus Rx300 Taillight

It is very important to keep your Lexus Rx 300 taillights in good working condition. It is dangerous to drive with a broken taillight and also, driving with a burned-out taillight puts you at risk or a traffic citation. Removing a taillight does not take a long time and requires only basic tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Socket
  • Ratchet
  • Disconnect the battery by removing the negative (black) cable from the battery. Use a wrench to loosen the battery cable's bolt and then remove the cable.

  • Open the trunk to access the taillight. Look at the trunk liner on the top rear of the inside of the trunk. When removed, this will expose the taillight.

  • Unscrew the four clips that hold the lining in place. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver. Then, pull back the felt lining.

  • Take off the four nuts that hold the taillight cover in place. Take off the nuts with a socket. Pull the cover away to expose the light bulb.

  • Twist the light and pull it off its dock. Remove the bulb from the light by twisting it to the left.
