How to Replace the Front Headlight on a 1995 Honda Civic

When a headlight burns out on your 1995 Honda Civic, you should replace it as soon as possible. A failed headlight is a safety hazard because it reduces your visibility on the road. Many states require that your headlights be functioning at all times. You can easily change the headlight bulbs in your Civic at home. The 1995 Civic uses a 9003 dual beam headlight available at most auto parts retailers and Honda dealerships.

  • Raise the hood of your 1995 Honda Civic. Locate the bulb cover just inside the engine compartment.

  • Slide the bulb cover backward along the electrical wire to expose the bulb assembly. Press the retaining clip and disconnect the electrical connection from the bulb assembly.

  • Twist the lock ring counter-clockwise to release the bulb. Pull the retaining spring off the bulb assembly if necessary.

  • Pull the bulb socket straight out of the light assembly. Pull the bulb out of the socket and discard the old bulb.

  • Insert the new bulb straight into the socket and reinsert the socket into the headlight assembly. Secure the retaining clip if needed. Turn the retaining ring clockwise to lock the bulb assembly into position.

  • Press the electrical connection straight onto the rear of the socket until the retaining clip clicks. Replace the bulb cover and secure it in position.

  • Repeat the process on the opposite headlight if needed. Close the hood and test the operation of the new headlight bulbs.
